SUMMER BREEZE

"The colours became more exaggerated.  The petals exploded across the canvas.  The paintings were now only serving to depict the utter happiness and excitement of the process of producing these works"

- Michael F. Rumsby

'Summer Breeze' is a collection of 17 paintings inspired by summer walks through the meadows that punctuate the landscape around my home in Saussignac, South West France.  A lover of flowers since a young age, I'm particularly drawn to how we interact with these incredibly beautiful specimens that nature provides.  'Summer Breeze' celebrates the explosion of joy I feel when surrounded by the bold beauty of floral displays; it celebrates the calmness that emanates from meadow flowers gently swaying in the wind and it documents the emotions I feel from my engagement with my surroundings.

In November 2024 I visited the Musée Yves Saint Laurent in Paris and the Jardins de Majorelle in Marrakech.  Saint Laurent's interpretations of his own love of flowers was a watershed moment for me.  These two experiences were formative in taking this body of work to a more abstract form.  My own interpretations of flowers became bolder and more graphic in style.
