"My work is a collage of different elements and senses weaved together by my imagination to create one landscape."

Michael's work has been described as expressive, bordering on abstract but with the landscape ever present in his large and impactful paintings.

Michael F Rumsby (b. 1968, Suffolk), is a British artist based in Saussignac, France and is known for his painterly still life and landscapes, strongly informed by a close contemplation of nature.  His paintings pulsate with colour and light, a culmination of layering and layering of paints and reflecting an energetic, maximum expression.  Prior to working as a fulltime artist, Rumsby had a successful corporate career working with global brands including L’Oreal and The Body Shop.  Rumsby was Managing Director of APCO, Bruxelles before moving to Paris where he was the Group Head of International Communications for the L’Oreal Group.

He has exhibited extensively around the world including The Oberoi Centre and Arabian Ranches in Dubai, Chapel Gallery in the UK, Majilis Gallery in Dubai, Whitewall and Clarendon Fine Art across the gallery’s network of UK spaces. His work is held in corporate and private collections and he has exhibited work at the British Polo Day in Dubai and the Park Hyatt hotel.

Rumsby successfully showed a new collection of work, Respair, in his first London solo show at Clarendon Fine Art in Mayfair.  Country & Townhouse magazine described Respair as one of ‘The Best Art Exhibitions in London in 2022” and Condenast Traveller praised the show as “a must-see exhibition”.

Rumsby attended the University of Lancaster where he achieved a BA in Fine Art and French. He lives in Saussignac France with his husband Lee where together they operate The 1500, a boutique hotel that offers accommodation, dining and painting retreats. Rumsby’s work is held in numerous private collections in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

Rumsby is currently represented by Clarendon Fine Art in the UK.
